Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a popular public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a web site that hosts videos and commentaries looking at the portrayals of female characters in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic that has received prizes for her work, is a feminist blogger. She is the author and executive director of Feminist Frequency which is an education not-for-profit website that explores representations of women in pop culture narratives. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop culture. Additionally, she works to raise awareness of online harassment directed at women and those who are marginalized. With a master's in the field of political and social thinking from York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as at The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. As a university student she became concerned about issues related to gender equality and the rights of women in the early stages. She was a young woman who wanted to create an online series to examine the how gender is represented in video games. But, she was the victim of online harassment. However the attack could be a deterrent, but it was a boost to her determination to be a feminist media critic. In recognition of the many accomplishments she's made to feminist movements, she has been awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of media and founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit investigates women's representation in popular culture of today.
